Optimisation

Job description

Mission

At the confluence between generation (electricity production) and retail (electricity consumption), the optimisation department manages Luminus’ position on the financial/energy market by ensuring that, at all times, there is a match between electricity/gas supply and demand. To do this, it is needed to optimize the volumes to be processed on the market and to extract the maximum value from its assets through market engineering. Such activities rely extensively on data and on insights that could be extracted from it. The quality, relevance and quantity of these insights are key to help optimisation to take the right decisions.

This is why the optimisation department is enlarging its data intelligence team which delivers data products (and insights) to improve operational excellence, portfolio optimization and anticipation of future market trends. In that context, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced profile that can help us accelerate the development of our department to become more data-driven by sharing their experience and taking over ambitious data science projects in the energy industry.

On top of a strong technical background, it is expected from the data scientist to understand the business to properly address its needs but also to spot new data science opportunities. Translating these ideas into proof of concepts to demonstrate their value will be an important part of the job without forgetting to industrialize them on our data science platform.

In your daily work, you will collaborate with several key data & business players of our department (data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, optimizers, business stakeholders, etc.) to help the optimization department to achieve its ambition.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust and sustainable machine learning models to transform data into valuable insights to support decision-making
  • Materialize ideas into proof-of-concepts to assess their viability.
  • Industrialize successful proof concepts on our data science platform in collaboration with data engineers to deliver automated & end-to-end data products.
  • Extract insights from complex and varied data sets to solve optimization problems.
  • Provide analytical guidance in strategic decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, domain experts, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and ensure optimal product delivery.
  • Educate the data intelligence team on new market and/or technology trends in the domain of data analytics and artificial intelligence.
  • Work with a team of colleagues who are ready to collaborate and share their knowledge and experience.
  • Help to develop internal libraries and tools.

Job requirements

  • You have a MSc Degree or PhD in artificial intelligence, science or engineering
  • You are a candidate with at least 3 years of experience in a Data Scientist role
  • You have an AI expert knowledge
  • You are Python expert
  • You have a solid theoretical background in statistics, data science and machine learning
  • You can leverage statistical analysis and machine learning to generable actionable insights
  • You have a portfolio with inspiring end-to-end data science solutions
  • You can write industrial-ready, clear and robust code
  • Innovation and knowledge sharing are in your DNA
  • You are fluent in English and Dutch/French.

Appreciated

  • You have experience with big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Snowflake, etc) and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • You have some experience with Soda or other similar data quality tools
